When creating production runs, you can let the system automatically choose which storage locations to pull materials and products from. It'll pick the best location based on what's actually in stock.
Turning On Automatic Selection
When you're creating or editing a production run, look for these fields:
-
Materials location — where to pull materials from
-
Products location — where to pull component products from (only shows up if you're using products as components)
In either field you can select Automatic.

How It Works
When you choose Automatic, here's what happens behind the scenes:
-
The system checks which locations have the material or product you need
-
If it's only in one location — that's the one it picks
-
If it's in multiple locations — it pulls from whichever has the most stock
This saves you from having to manually specify a location for every single component.
Viewing Consumption by Location

When you use automatic selection, you can group used materials and products by storage location in the production card. Just switch to that view to see exactly what came from each storage location.
When This Really Helps
Automatic location selection is particularly handy when:
-
You stock different materials across multiple locations
-
A production run needs to pull from several locations at once
-
You don't want to manually pick location for every used material
