Subassemblies

Last updated on May 15, 2026

Subassemblies are intermediate products used in creating other products. They allow you to organize multi-stage production by breaking down complex processes into simpler steps. If your production cycle consists of several stages, using subassemblies will make your workflow more efficient.

Once enabled, you can add other products to a product's component list. This allows your production process to flow through multiple stages:

Materials → Products → Products → ... → Products

Example

  1. "Dough" subassembly:

    • Made from materials (flour, yeast, and other ingredients)

    • Set up as a separate product

    • Recommended: assign a "Subassembly" category for easier organization

  2. Final product "Pie":

    • Contains the subassembly (dough) and other materials (apples, cinnamon, etc.)

This production organization allows you to:

  • Break down complex processes into logical stages

  • Track costs at each production stage

  • Flexibly manage your production process

This feature can be enabled in system settings and is available on the Business and Professional plans.

"Produce subassemblies" toggle in production

When you create a production whose component list includes subassemblies, a Produce subassemblies toggle appears.

When it's off, subassemblies are written off from stock as ready-made components. When it's on, subassemblies are "expanded" into materials: instead of the ready subassembly, the materials from its composition are written off. This works recursively through the entire nesting chain.

"Produce subassemblies by default" setting

Sets the default position of the Produce subassemblies toggle for new productions. The value can still be changed manually in each individual production.
